GPS troubleshooting

Important! The upper part of the Oudie N, where the camera lens is located, must ALWAYS be open. Do not attach anything containing metal to it. Do not place the device in such a way that it is covered by another object. This directly affects the operation of the GPS signal receiver.

Experiencing GPS signal issues in SeeYou Navigator? This guide helps you quickly identify the cause and restore a stable GPS connection.

Understanding GPS status

GPS indicator on the map

The map screen includes a small GPS indicator that shows the current signal status by color:

  • 🟢 Green good GPS fix, ready for navigation
  • 🟡 Yellow unstable signal, position may be inaccurate
  • 🔴 Red no GPS fix, position unavailable

Common problems and solutions

Weak or no GPS signal

Problem: The GPS indicator shows yellow or red, or position is inaccurate or missing.

Solutions:

  • Move to an open area avoid buildings, trees, and metal structures. GPS needs a clear view of the sky. Indoor reception is usually unavailable.
  • Wait for GPS initialization after launching the app, GPS may take 30–60 seconds to acquire satellites. Stay still until the indicator turns green.
  • Check location permissions in your device settings, ensure SeeYou Navigator has location access set to “While using the app” or “Always.”
  • Restart GPS close SeeYou Navigator, disable and re-enable your device’s location services, then reopen the app and wait for a fix.
  • Check for interference metal cases, windshields, or accessories may block signals. Remove potential obstructions.

Inaccurate position

Problem: The GPS position jumps or shows the wrong location.

Solutions:

  • Check fix quality: open Settings > System Status and ensure “Fix quality” is good. If it shows “unreliable” or “undefined,” signal is weak.
  • Verify satellite count: tap the GPS indicator to view satellites. You need at least 5–7 satellites for accurate positioning. More satellites mean better accuracy.
  • Avoid reflective surfaces near buildings, GPS signals may bounce (multipath effect). Move to an open area like a field for best results.
  • Wait for stabilization the GPS chip may need several minutes to calibrate. Stay still in an open space while it establishes a stable fix.

Tips for better GPS performance

  • Start GPS early: launch SeeYou Navigator before flight to allow time for a fix
  • Stay outdoors: GPS works best with an unobstructed sky view
  • Keep the app active: accuracy improves with continuous GPS operation
  • Monitor the indicator: check its color regularly during flight
  • Disable battery saving mode: power saving often reduces GPS accuracy

If you have tried all the tips but the GPS still does not work or works incorrectly, please contact Naviter support at [email protected].

When to check GPS status

  • Before takeoff, to confirm a strong signal
  • If navigation seems inaccurate
  • When the map stops updating position
  • After moving to a new region

🟢 A green GPS indicator and 6+ satellites in use mean optimal conditions for reliable navigation.
