KK7 map layers are additional data overlays in SeeYou Navigator that show real flight routes and thermal areas based on global pilot track statistics. The app downloads data from https://thermal.kk7.ch
There are two main layers:
- Skyways: popular air corridors and flight routes;
- Thermals: areas where thermals are frequently observed.
These layers help you plan routes, understand typical flight paths, and locate potential lift zones.
Use this information as a reference, not as flight instructions, actual weather conditions always take priority.
How it works
Skyways
Shows where pilots often fly: connecting takeoffs, thermals, and landings to form visible “air highways.”

Useful for:
- planning routes along proven paths;
- understanding where most air traffic occurs;
- exploring new regions.
Thermals
Highlights areas where thermals occur most often.
Helps you:
- locate likely lift zones;
- link thermals into route segments;
- understand seasonal and daily thermal patterns.
Both layers are based on historical data and show tendencies, not real-time conditions.
How to enable or disable
- Open the map layers menu or Settings > Map & Layers > Configure map layers.
- Find the section Skyways and Thermals.
- Use the toggle to enable the desired layer.
- The map will refresh automatically.

Possible issues
- If layers don’t appear, check your internet connection, make sure the correct toggles are on, and confirm the map area is supported.
- Information looks outdated: refresh the layer, verify the selected season and time of day; remember this is statistical data, not a forecast.
- Map looks cluttered: lower transparency, disable one of the layers, or remove other overlays.
- Routes do not match your flights: the region may have limited data, coverage improves over time.
- Data not loading: check your connection, clear cache, or try again later.
Important notes
- KK7 shows tendencies, not live conditions.
- Always check weather, NOTAMs, and airspace information before flight.
- Accuracy depends on the number of recorded flights in the region.
- All data is anonymous and aggregated from multiple tracks.
